Our lovely indie nail polish guru Amanda has been hard at work the last few months, but she is back with a new US discovery to share with you on the topic of beauty that cares….
One of the things I love about indie polish (besides the amazing variety of colours, finishes and holo goodness) is the people behind the brands who do good too. I’ve recently gotten to know Michelle the creator of Polish M based in Bakersfield California. I was drawn to her unique polish colours and glitters mixes and have since wound up with about a dozen or so in my collection.
I heard about the Polish for Pit bulls initiative that Polish M and Cameo Colours Lacquers were working on together and I wanted to know more. Polish M and Cameo Color Lacquers are both bully-breed advocates. They both foster and have Pit bulls as pets of their own and are passionate about educating others on misconceptions of the breed.
Michelle told me, “ Pit bulls and pit bull mixes make up most of the dog population in shelters across the US, from 33% all the way to 65% in larger city shelters. Only 1 out of 600 will find a forever home. Sadly the rest don’t have a happy ending. Yearly, the U.S. euthanises 1 million Pit bulls and Pit bull mixes. Overpopulation is the main reason, which is why spaying and neuter is so important. This is really my main passion for ALL dogs and cats, not just pit bulls. Until we can change the thinking in certain cultures, the needless killing of shelter pets will never end.”
To raise money and awareness these two great indie brands made a limited edition Polish for Pit Bulls Valentine’s Duo.
Polish M offered Puppy Love; a baby pink crelly with silver and magenta metallic glitter, and silver and magenta holo glitter – whilst the aptly titled, My Furry Valentine from Cameo Colours was a berry foil with two sizes of platinum silver flakes, micro silver holographic shards, and a pop of extra scattered holographic sparkle. Both of these polishes are outstanding!
Proceeds from Polish for Pit Bulls were donated to the Fresno Bully Rescue in Fresno California, where Michelle and her husband have volunteered, fostered and adopted their own dogs. Michelle commented that, “they are amazing people and an amazing organisation as a whole. I agree with and support everything they do.” Cameo Color Lacquers’s proceeds went to Pit Bull Rescue Oklahoma – who also does incredible work.
